Cedar Lodge care home in Frimley Green reunited a married couple after months of separation due to the pandemic.
In 2017, Mrs Gerry Carbury required nursing care so moved to Cedar Lodge care home to begin her permanent residency. Her husband, Nick, subsequently visited Cedar Lodge every day to be with his wife. When covid-19 arrived to the UK and lockdown began, visiting care homes become heavily restricted to help stop the spread of the virus.
When his own health required a short stay in hospital in September 2020, Nick wondered if it was time to join Gerry at Cedar Lodge. He says “When I was in hospital, they said I might have to stay for at least two weeks for nursing care. I immediately phoned Nenita, the care home manager at Cedar Lodge, who quickly made all the arrangements for me to be with Gerry. It was a great sense of relief to come here. It had been weeks since my last garden visit, which was only my third in 2020 due to my own ill health”.
Following a negative Covid test and 14-day isolation, the happy couple have been reunited within the safety of the care home.
Mrs Carbury commented with tears in her eyes “It was overwhelming when Nick arrived. Thank you to everyone at Cedar Lodge for arranging such a wonderful surprise. I’m much happier with Nick here and feel more emotionally secure to see him every day again”
There was not a dry eye in the house on Mr Carbury’s arrival. The care staff were overjoyed to facilitate the reunion while even the paramedics who brought Nick to the home shed a tear or two.
