Interim Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care and Registration appointment
As you know Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care and Registration is leaving CQC at the end of the year to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
Today we’re pleased to announce that Debbie Westhead will take the role of interim Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care and Registration when Andrea leaves at the end of the year, until a permanent Chief Inspector is in post. Debbie is currently Deputy Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care for the north region and is strategic lead for our enforcement programme.
Debbie has a strong background in adult social care, having started her career on the front line as a care assistant and progressing through local government, the Commission for Social Care Inspection and CQC. She has been a member of Andrea’s leadership team since 2014, playing a pivotal role in the development and implementation of our regulatory approach in the adult social care sector.
Andrea Sutcliffe said:
“I am very pleased that Debbie has been appointed as interim Chief Inspector for ASC and Registration. Having worked with Debbie since I started at CQC I know how passionate and committed she is to improving adult social care services. I don’t think I could have left you in a safer pair of hands.”
Debbie Westhead said:
“I am honoured and excited to be given the opportunity of leading the ASC and Registration Directorate in the role of Interim Chief Inspector and working with colleagues, the Executive Team and Board. Over the last years, together, we have achieved a great deal although we all know there is still more to do. With your support I am confident we will continue to ensure people receive safe, high quality compassionate care, and I will be fully committed to supporting you all in the best possible way during 2019”.
Ian Trenholm, Chief Executive Officer, CQC, said:
“I am really pleased that Debbie will be joining the board and Executive Team as Interim Chief Inspector, ensuring continuity of leadership at this important time for social care.”
