Quality Recruitment Workshop Issues/Concerns Raised 1) The time it takes to get CRB checks back- this has the potential to lose prospective staff. 2) Poaching of Staff by offering slightly higher rates of pay is still happening 3) Some agencies have experienced time wasted through interviewing staff who it would appear are “mystery shoppers” trying to glean info on the service. 4) The cost of training continues to be a burden. 5) Unsocial hours is a turn off for some applicants Best Practice/What works for me Ideas 1) You can speed up CRB returns by paying an umbrella body to undertake the work. It is also important to ensure that the form is completed accurately or it will be delayed. You can save wasted time by either a pre interview meeting to explain the work and clarify eligibility etc or by a phone call to vet potential candidates. This also helps to maintain their interest etc. The use of case studies/scenarios can be helpful in determining that they have the right attitude and ethos etc. Using Literacy tests at interview can be helpful in assessing suitability. Use of Google searches can be one way of finding out about prospective staff.

Missing from the list of how to check records of overseas workers: Bulgaria – Should be done prior to leaving the country but is straight forward. They should visit their local Court of Justice and ask for a letter. For immigration/eligibility questions: Local Office – Croydon Enforcement Unit 0208603 8749
