Who are Skills for Care

National
Working in consultation with carers, employers and service users, Skills for Care aims to modernise adult social care in England, by ensuring qualifications and standards continually adapt to meet the changing needs of people who use care services.

We do this by:

  • Developing national standards and a qualification framework for our sector

  • Collecting skills data and researching issues affecting carers and people who use care services

  • Creating a national workforce development strategy for all sectors

  • Building employer-led regional support networks to liaise with health, local government and education at local, regional and national level.

  • Regional
Skills for Care regional committees contribute to the improvement of social care and social work through workforce development within their particular region of the country. Each regional committee reflects the make-up of the national Skills for Care board, with a majority of members drawn from networks of independent and statutory sector employers. Other members are service users and carers, staff groups and training interests.

Skills for Care in the South East Region
There is a regional team to support the work of Skills for Care.

    CWDC (Children’s Workforce Development Council)
A Partner with Skills for Care in "Skills for Care and Development" the Sector Skills Council.
CWDC exists to improve the lives of children, young people, their families and carers by ensuring that all people working with them have the best possible training, qualifications, support and advice. It also helps children and young people's organisations and services to work together better so that the child is at the centre of all services.

CWDC now has seven Regional Development Managers (RDMs) in place across England. They represent CWDC on a regional level and are the eyes and ears of the organisation on the ground. The RDMs are building networks with those involved with the children's workforce, and offering regional support and advice on the development of integrated children's workforce strategies and the wider work of CWDC.
The SE Regional Development Manager is:

    Skills for Care in Surrey
The work of Skills for Care in Surrey is carried out through the Surrey sub group. The Chair is elected every three years and the members are selected to represent employers providing services to a range of service user groups.

    The current membership is:

Coming soon a list with contact details and representation group

    What does this group do?
Skills for Care set the strategic direction nationally. The South East Regional committee then consider how this will be implemented in the South East and how budgets should be allocated to different work streams. Then the Surrey group considers at its quarterly meetings how this will be implemented locally. During the year the Surrey group reviews how the plans are progressing and makes and receives reports from the South East Regional committee (through its Chair who sits on the Regional committee).
