Getting the most out of NVQ Workshops
Annette Clarke works for Quality Care. She started NVQ Level 3 in Care in 2003. Annette talks about the benefits of attending workshops at Godalming College.
“I attended my first workshop and I naturally was very nervous, I didn’t know what to expect as when I did my NVQ Level 2 in Care it was done on a one-to-one basis. I felt my first workshop was very relaxed, we all got on with one another, which made us open up a lot more, and we then put a lot into that workshop. We also got to know Jenny Connelly our assessor. All the other workshops I attended were exactly the same and I felt each time I had more input into discussions and I wanted people to hear about my experiences. Jenny wants us to enjoy it and get the most out of them. I feel the college standards are very high which is good and their aim is to obviously make everyone qualify. The assessor’s standards are high and that is what we want.
Jenny Connelly my assessor, well what can I say, what a wonderful professional, and understanding person whatever and whenever I have needed her it is always a case of just ring, e-mail or drop a line to college and she will always call you back however small the problem may be. She is extremely flexible when it comes to observations and she never makes you feel you are being watched. You feel relaxed, and then you are able to show her the full quality of your work without being nervous.
Whenever I have phoned the college, all messages have been passed on, and when you go there you are always greeted by a friendly face who explains what you need to do, eg parking, signing in etc. There are so many people in the college who are there to help and give you advice when you need it.
My overall view of the college is a happy, professional environment, and they will do their utmost to get us through this qualification. The college has made my confidence grow and helped me to now carry out first class care and have a bigger picture of how the caring profession works and how it is growing.
My assessor is the most professional and helpful person and takes her job very seriously. She is an asset to the college.”
