Developments in the policy for Do not Attempt Resuscitation (DNAR)

The South East Coast Strategic Health Authority have now developed a set of principles which have been approved by the Quality Board and are being implemented across all organisations . The advantage of adopting this approach is that all care providers work within the principles and use common documentation. The document clearly identifies that these principles relate to all adults over the age of 16years. They address issues such as whom, how and when the decisions are made and confirm that the decisions are not time limited.
A copy of the Principles document plus supporting information is in the resources section. Included with the principles document is some supporting background information, a frequently asked questions and copies of the documentation to be completed for each individual. Implementing this policy represents significant change to the DNAR policy and it is important that you familiarise yourself with these changes.
