Surrey Information Point Launched

New Web Site to assist those looking for information on a range of matters.

Surrey County Council, in partnership with Social Information on Disability (SID) and NHS Surrey, has launched a new website –

 www.surreyinformationpoint.org.uk

It has been developed with a project steering group including representatives from user and carer organisations, providers, voluntary sector organisations and district and borough councils.

What is Surrey Information Point?

Surrey Information Point is a new online directory of information, services and activities to support adults in Surrey to live independently. The website brings together in one place accurate, up to date and easy to find information on community services, facilities, money matters and health conditions.

Who is it for?

Surrey Information Point is for all adults in Surrey, particularly people who experience barriers to living independently, their carers and families.

It will also provide a trusted information resource for health and social care professionals and community organisations to offer consistent information and advice.

What is the difference between Surrey Information Point and the Surrey County Council website?

The Surrey County Council website provides detailed information about county council services and activities. Surrey Information Point is focused specifically on adults, and provides information, publications and links to a wide range of community and statutory services – local, countywide and national.

Information is searchable by postcode, place name and category with further filters available to refine the search. Adding real value for users it includes a step-by-step guide with prompts to guide people to personalise their information. They can create a shortlist which can be printed or emailed. This helps people provide the information over the phone or face-to-face.

There is a national requirement for all Local Authorities to put in place arrangements for universal information and advice and this website is one solution.  This supports the personalisation agenda which aims to give people more choice and control over their lives.  Individuals can only make informed choices with good information and advice about care and support options available to them.

Live Life Your Way campaign

Surrey Information Point is being launched as part of a wider Adult Social Care awareness campaign.

The Live Life Your Way awareness campaign is our response to the Government’s requirement to inform the public about where they can go to get the best information and advice about their care and support needs. Local authorities are also expected to provide more information to all residents irrespective of their eligibility to receive social care or their ability to pay for their care. Early support and information helps everyone before a crisis develops or a decline in a person’s health or independence.

The campaign ads promote Surrey Information Point in the first instance and also the Adult Social Care helpline – 0300 200 1005. For more information see the Surrey County Council website.  Advertisements are being featured during March on radio stations, on buses and on train station platform billboards, and in selected magazines. The campaign will be repeated during the year and will also promote the Hubs in local areas.
